Focus and aperture

Focus modes

Follow subject keeps focus on the selected framing target as the camera moves. Turn it off to set focus manually; Focus at target refocuses once.

Hyperfocal distance
Hyperfocal explained

Hyperfocal distance is the focus distance used to extend acceptable sharpness approximately from half that distance to infinity. It depends on the lens, aperture and sharpness criterion, not the current focus setting.

Blur and sharpness

Depth-of-field readings use a full-frame sensor and 0.03 mm circle of confusion. Visible blur is an artistic approximation; aperture also changes the relative exposure preview.

Overview guides
Guide colours

Amber is the focus distance. The space between the green outlines is the calculated acceptable sharpness range; sharpness changes gradually, not at a hard edge.

Distance measurements

Depths use object centres, measured along the photographic camera viewing direction. Subject means the centre of the whole selected model, not the focus plane. Toggles hide props in both views.
